Field trip to Bradwell-on-Sea and Maldon, Essex

Members of the Finding Eanswythe Research Group took a trip to Bradwell-on-Sea, Essex to visit the 7th century Chapel of St. Peter-on-the-Wall, one of the oldest and most complete remaining Christian churches in England. This was a fascinating opportunity to see what St. Eanswythe’s Chapel at Swetton could have looked like.

The group then took a short walk along the coast to Sales Point, where a Saxon coastal fish weir can still be found.

Finally, a visit to the statue of Byrhtnoth at Maldon gave the perfect opportunity for Dr. Andrew Richardson to read the poem The Battle of Maldon.
